The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. If you haven't read this one yet, you're a little behind the times. Don't worry, just go to your local bookstore, pick it up and have a read. It's quite the book. Even if you've seen the movie and haven't read the book, I recommend it.
The Gathering and The Calling by Kelley Armstrong. One of my favourite authors. If you haven't read anything by Kelley Armstrong yet, go to the library and find one of hers. She also has The Summoning, The Awakening and The Reckoning. If you're looking for more of an adult outlook on things (including erotica), you might try her Otherworld series. All are wonderfully well-written books.
The Inheritance Series by Christopher Paolini. Okay, these have wonderful story lines. The guy started writing them when he was fifteen, but as far as epic fantasy goes, I'd say they're pretty great. They've got dragons and elves (although not your typical elves) and dwarves and magic. Check them out if you're interested in that sort of thing. The books, in order are: Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr and Inheritance.
The House of Night Series by P.C. Cast and Kristen Cast. Okay, guys, you gotta check this one out. I'm serious. If not for the awesome (and very different) vampires the story has created, then for the fact that a mother and daughter have worked together on a story and have survived creating it without a scratch. The series is long and I'm not going to list all the books, but look it up. The first book is called Marked.
Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. I'm sorry to say it, but this is another vampire one. Don't scoff at it, though, it's actually very different from the average vampire stories. Plus, there are a couple hotties, one of which isn't a vampire. If you like the romance thing, I definitely recommend this one.
Anything written by Cassandra Clare. She currently has two series, both very unique from anything else I've read. The Mortal Instruments, which includes the following: City of Bones, City of Ashes, City of Glass, City of Fallen Angels, City of Lost Souls and soon to come, City of Heavenly Fire. The books are amazing, unique and original, and if you're looking for something with a fresh voice and new ideas, this is the place to look. She also has her Infernal Devices series, which includes Clockwork Angel, Clockwork Prince and soon to come, Clockwork Princess.
The Iron Fey Series by Julie Kagawa. There are four books: The Iron King, the Iron Daughter, the Iron Queen and The Iron Knight. Also a fairly unique outlook. It ties into some of Shakespeare's work, which is absolutely genius. Don't let that put you off--it's not a bunch of hard-to-understand written plays. What Ms. Kagawa did, was steal some of the characters to tie into her fiction work. So go give it a read!
There you have it, folks. My reading list for the day. If that didn't give you something new to read, go reread one of these, as they're all genius works of fiction.
