So today's post is a 200-word excerpt from the first chapter of my own novel, the Huntress. A brief background on the piece:

Sienna Skye is a sixteen-year-old witch who has waited four years to avenge her brother's death. But when she finally hunts down his killer, Skylar Wolfe, she finds herself hesitating.

I didn't bother with an author bio. If you'd like to read a little about me, please go to the 'about me' section of my profile. Now, for the featured piece.

Skylar pushed himself to all fours. Sienna picked up thefallen knife and pressed it to his throat. He froze in a half crouch, his bodytensed. She adjusted her grip, willing herself to put more pressure on it.
            Her handwouldn’t move.
A long, silent moment passed. Only Sienna’s heavy breathing broke it.
“You’re not strong enough,” hewhispered. A drop of blood trickled down his neck. For a long minute, neitherof them moved.
Skylar broke the stillness. Hetouched her hand and she jerked back. The knife slashed through his shoulder.Sienna stumbled. Skylar pressed his hand to the shallow cut that hadsliced through his shirt. "Sienna—"
“No. I am strong enough,” shewhispered. “I won’t do it because you—you’re not who I thought you were. Butthat doesn’t change what you did.” Sienna hesitated and then put the knife backin its sheath. She pressed her lips together, “You had better hope we don’tcross paths again, Skylar Wolfe. Next time we do, I’ll kill you.
